ROBERTSON James Robertson, Jr., PhD, who was a cornerstone to the Texas A & M Health Science Center (TAMHSC) Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy died on November 21,2012 in Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 59. Dr. Robertson was born as the eldest of 6 children to James Cornelius Robertson and Nancy Caves Robertson on June 15,1953 In New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a 1972 graduate of Ponchatoula High School in Ponchatoula, Louisiana and a 1976 graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University In Hammond, Louisiana where he received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Spanish with a minor in education. He received a Master of Arts in education in 1979 from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and his doctorate in health education in 1991 from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill. Early in his career, Robertson worked as an administrator. He was Assistant Director of Admissions at the University of New Orleans at the age of 27. After a few months, he became the International Student Office Director and Veterans Administration Certifying Official in the Office of the Registrar at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. After obtaining his doctorate, he returned to the University of Louisiana at Monroe as the Director of Admissions, University Registrar and adjunct associate professor in health education. In 2005, he began his service as Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the TAMHSC Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy in Kingsville, Texas, a position he maintained until his death. During his 7 year period of service In Kingsville, he was instrumental in securing over $4.1 million in grants and awards for the TAMHSC Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy. Dr. Robertson was truly a self-made man and will always be remembered by those who knew him as the consummate professional, snazzy dresser, caring friend and for his engaging personality. Dr. Robertson is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jimmy Robertson of Ponchatoula, LA. He is survived by Dr. Timothy VanFrank, MD, of Corpus Christi, Texas; his siblings: brother, Gary Robertson, Sr. (Lynn) of Matalbany, LA; sister in law, Marion Robertson of Appleton, Wisconsin; sister, Diane Martinez (Mark) of Ponchatoula, LA; sister, Margie Robertson of La Place, LA; sister, Mildred Windom (Tommy) of Matalbany, LA; and 12 nephews and nieces. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Edward N. Jones Auditorium, 855 North Armstrong Street in Kingsville, Texas with a reception to follow at the Memorial Student Union Building, Rm 221-A and B on the TAMUK campus, 1050 West Santa Gertrudis Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Dr. James Robertson Memorial Fund. Checks can be made payable to the TAMHSC Foundation. Please write "JR Memorial fund" at the bottom of the check and mail to the Office of the Dean, TAMHSC Rangel College of Pharmacy, MSC 131, 1010 West Avenue B, Kingsville, TX 78363.
