George Wortham officiating. Mr. Rodgers passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009 at his home after a short illness. He was born August 30, 1930 in Charleston, WV, son of Luther Bryant Rodgers, Sr. and Laura Chloe Lanham Rodgers. Luke served in the U.S. Army Air Corp (later the U.S. Air Force) from 1950-1954, serving in Texas, Japan, Viet Nam and Korea. He retired as a Staff Sergeant. He later worked for Union Carbide Corp. in West Virginia and retired from Ford, Bacon and Davis in Monroe, LA. He was preceded in death by both his parents, his sister Mary Robinson, and his brother Doyle Rodgers. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Toni B. Rodgers of West Monroe; sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Don Warden of Florida; sister Phyllis Williams of West Virginia; step-son John Raymon Shannon of Texas; step-daughter Angie Whitener of Texas; step-granddaughters Shannon and Jennifer Whitener of Texas; sister-in-law Erin Sikes of Texas; along with several nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends. According to his wishes, he was cremated and his ashes will be sprinkled in the Gulf of Mexico from his step-son's boat. Honorary pallbearers will be Hollis Weir, Bob Viglini, Margaret Hunter, Matilda Clark, and nephew Steve Wild. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Service Committee of Highland Presbyterian Church (1403 Wellerman Road, West Monroe, LA 71291), Our House Help for Teenagers in Crisis (205 Smith Avenue, Monroe, LA 71203), or the charity of their choice.
