Jon Tellifero officiating. Interment will follow at New Forest Cemetery, Forest, LA. Lucille passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013, in Monroe after a short illness. She was born May 9, 1920 in Dry Pong, LA to P.G. and Dolores (Coody) McElroy. She was the granddaughter of John and Ellen Coody of Campbell Community, West Carroll Parish, LA. Lucille was a proud to have graduated from Pioneer High School as the valedictorian and recipient of the American Legion Citizenship Award. While raising five children, she co-founded the Pioneer Parent Teacher's Association with her husband, Ben. She then began her second career joining three of her children and one son-in-law at Northeast Louisiana University. She proudly completed both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees and was pleased to see all her children complete their initial college degrees from Northeast. Lucille moved on to Metairie, Louisiana where she continued to be champion of education as a principal at two schools, one of which was awarded the Outstanding Award of PTA for the State of Louisiana. As a champion of children, she successfully encouraged her staff to continue their training to better serve the children as evidenced by the high level of success that was achieved by the children and her schools. Following her retirement, she and Ben returned to North Louisiana, where many of her children and great grandchildren resided in Monroe, until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Bryan Ross, Sr., and her brother, Rondelle W. McElroy. She is survived by two sisters, Lillian McElroy Howell, Irene McElroy Bliss; five children, Elizabeth Ann Herzog of Monroe, LA, Carolyn Joyce Edwards of Metairie, LA, Benjamin Bryan Ross, Jr., and wife Wanda Wheelington Ross of Raleigh, NC, Mary Catherine Kelly and husband V. Sherwood Kelly of Franklin, TN, John Russell Ross and wife Betty Pearce Ross; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Pallbearers will be Victor S. Kelly, Jr., J.R. Ross, Jr., Jim Bell, Duncan Evans, Kenny Cloud, and Mike Holland. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Pusateri and Charles Bryan Herzog, Sr. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
