ROSS A funeral mass celebrating the life of David A. Ross, Sr., 80, of Oak Ridge, LA will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday January 8, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rayville with Rev. Philip Pazhayakari officiating. Interment will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Rayville, LA David A. Ross, Sr. (Chief Ross), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, teacher, and friend joined our Lord in Heaven on Saturday, January 4, 2014. He was born on August 19, 1933 in Paducah, Kentucky. At age 19, he met and married the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Marie O'Meara. He served 20 years in the United States Navy and retired as a Senior Chief Quartermaster. His years of service spanned both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Chief Ross spent 24 years teaching generations of young people Naval Junior ROTC at Ouachita Parish High School (1971-1995). Upon his retirement, Pop spent his time gardening and raising award winning pumpkins and grandchildren. David was a graduate of Paducah Tighlman High School and received a BA and MA from Northeast Louisiana University. He was an excellent athlete who especially had a love for basketball which he coached in later years. He was a longtime parishioner and active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rayville. He is preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Caldwell Ross and father, John David Ross. He is survived by his wife, Marie and 11 children:Theresa Hagen, David Ross, Jr. (Cathy), Bill Ross (Nobie), Margaret McGowen (Tracy), Denise Ross, Mike Ross (Mary), Charles Ross (Madge), James Ross (Brenda), Mary Stokes (Tim), Robert Ross, Sue Ross. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild: David Hagen (Skyy), John Hagen, Doris Ross, Timothy Ross, John Ross (Lisa), Nathan Ross, Daniel Ross, Beverly Collins, Thomas Collins, Katie Wooley (Ryan) and great grandchild, Nora Marie, Brian Ross, Christopher Ross , Benjamin Ross, Blake Ross, Matthew Ross, Elizabeth Ross, Megan Ross, Jacob Stokes, and Molly Stokes. He is also survived by a brother, William Ross (Glynda) and one sister, Carol Sue Colby (John). Pallbearers will be his grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be George Stadter, Fred Douciere, Reggie Thomason, and June Grey. We wish him "fair winds and following seas". Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Mulhearn Funeral Home Rayville, LA Rosary will be held at 7:30PM Tuesday.
