Marshall Sevier officiating. Internment will follow in Start Cemetery, Start, LA under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville, LA. Robert Ross was born August 20, 1921 and passed away Thursday, March 19, 2009. A call to serve his Country led to his enlisting in the Army. He served with distinction during World War II. During his five years service he was awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Campaign Ribbon with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, fought in the North Africa Calgeria-French Morocco, Tunisian, Sicily and Italy theaters, WWII Victory Medal, and Army Good Conduct. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Word Ross; parents, Robert Henry and Edith Gertrude Ross; brothers, Clifton Ross and Lavelle "Bill" Ross; and sister, Bernice Ross. Survivors include his five children, Frances Goodson and husband, Ralph of Start, LA, Margie Ross of Start, LA, Robert S. Ross and wife, Lucy of Las Vegas, NV, Marvin Ross and wife, Patsy of Rayville, LA, and Lori Adams and husband, Guyon of Rayville, LA; sisters, Dorothy Ritchie and husband, Percy of Monroe, LA and Annette Buckner and husband, Luther of Murfreesboro, TN; aunt, Leola Brown of Monroe, LA; eleven grandchildren and twelve -great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Darren Frith, Eddie Word, George Word, Jr., Mike Ritchie, LeRoy Ross, and Joey Rushing. Honorary Pallbearers are Jack Barnett, Nelson Lane, all of his old fishing buddies and family at Palmaria. A special thank you to Kay Adams, his "Special Angel", Bro. Marshall Sevier, The Monroe VA Clinic, Richland Hospice, and Dr. LaFleur. Visitation will be 4:30 PM - 8:00 PM, Saturday, at Brown-Holley Funeral Home.
