Mr. Ross passed away at his daughter's home in Baton Rouge, LA on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Baskin, LA on August 5, 1933. He lived in Mangham, LA for most of his life. Mr. Ross graduated from Mangham High School and from Louisiana State University in 1956. He was an avid LSU fan. He loved his Tigers and always wore the purple and gold. He was in the ROTC while at LSU and received the Terry Judan Award. He served in the Air Force from 1956-1970 and was a Major in the Air Force Reserves. After leaving the Air Force he returned to his hometown of Mangham where he was instrumental in bringing about the first Republican primary in the state of Louisiana. He loved to write poetry, mostly about his family, each of his grandchildren who were the light of his life, and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his father Robert States Ross, his mother Ruby Seymour Ross Clingan, and stepfather Terry Clingan, all of Baskin, LA, his brother; Jimmy Dale Ross and wife Mona of Jonesville, LA, his sister; June Rowland and husband Bill of Alto, LA. Survivors include: wife of 51 years; Barbara Paul Ross of Simmesport, LA, daughters; Cathy Ross Mitchell and husband Pat of Baton Rouge, LA, Tricia Ross Guidry and husband Ricky of Lake Charles, LA, Christy Ross Maier of Montgomery, AL, and son Ken Ross and wife Lottie Fields Ross of Covington, LA. grandchildren; Emily and Kelly Mitchell, Sara, Kelsey, and Anna Guidry, Haley and Joseph Maier, and Noah and Savannah Ross, two sisters; Maxine Smart of Vidalia, LA and Jean Agnew and husband Raymond of Monroe, LA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Ron Rowland, Micah Rowland, Terry David Ross, Robert Blackwell, Joseph Maier, Kelly Mitchell and Noah Ross. Visitation will be from 5:00 till 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Rayville, LA.
