Randy Impson, and Rev. Joe Solomon officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Harry was born September 9, 1936, in Pioneer, LA, to Harrison and Myrtle Rushing, and went to be with his Heavenly Father on August 9, 2010. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout his illness, Harry never lost his gentle spirit and kind heart. Harry graduated from NLU in 1959, and later received a Master's from Nichols State and a Master's Plus 30 from NLU. While at NLU, he was a four year member of the baseball team and captain his senior year. He began teaching math at Centerville High in Franklin, LA, and moved with his family to Monroe in 1968 where he taught at Lee Jr. High for 8 years and Neville High School for 15 years. He also coached football, basketball, and baseball for many years. He also coached summer ball and all-stars for many years. Harry made a big impact on many people's lives through his teaching and coaching. Harry served in the National Guard in Franklin, LA, for ten years as Company Commander and Captain. He was an active member of Lea Joyner UMC, and an avid duck hunter, golfer, and fisherman, and especially loved to hunt and golf with his son, grandchildren, and family. The greatest joy of his life was spending time with his family. Harry always put others first and was willing to do anything for his family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marie Rushing; his son, Keith Rushing and wife Shaundra; grandchildren, Christopher Rushing and wife Stephanie, Kevin Rushing and wife Michelle, and Katie Rushing; and great-grandson, Christopher (C.J.), Jr. all of Monroe, LA; sisters, Lou Emily Nicholson and husband Bobby of Pioneer, LA, Peggy Billings of McKinney, TX, Sue McGinn and husband Joey of Monroe, LA, and Shirley Vining and husband Leo of Monroe, LA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Harry Nicholson, Steve Nicholson, Doug Vining, Patrick McGinn, Joey Sampognaro, Tim Hegwood, Ronnie Johnston, and Murray Hale. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 10, 2010, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. The family would like to thank Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care and Terry Eppinette for their outstanding care and support. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society and Lea Joyner United Methodist Church.
