Saturday, September 27, 2008 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA with Rev. Dennis Anger officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, LA. Mr. Russell was born March 17, 1919 and went to be with his Lord and Savior September 25, 2008. He served in the Army in the Southern Pacific in World War II for over 4 1/2 years. He retired from "The Paper Mill" in West Monroe after 36 years of service. His last job title before retirement was mobile equipment operator. At the Woodmill his nicknames were "Scoper" and "Brother-in-Law". Hunting, fishing, gardening and going to church and Sunday School were his favorite things to do. He loved his church family at Cypress Street Church of God. One of his last spoken prayers was "Lord, may I live a life that is pleasing unto you." Mr. Russell is preceded in death by his parents, Hoea O. and Eunie Crowell Russell; sisters, Myrta Reese Boyte, Marie McKnight and brother, Ellery Russell. Survivors include his faithful care giver and wife of 63 years and 9 months, Evelyn Puckett Russell; children, Nancy and Charles Elmore, Johnny and Greta Russell; grandchildren, Charlene and Brian Ragan, Wendy and Joseph "Bill" Chandler; great grandsons, Tyler and Spencer Ragan; sisters, Eloise Simmons, Carolyn Burkett; brother, Reginald Russell and wife Barbara; sister-in-law, Margie Puckett Douglas and many nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be William Ragan, Brain Ragan, Tyler Ragan, Spencer Ragan, Carl Elmore, Craig Elmore, Marvin McConnell, Ken McConnell and Gary Davis. Honorary Pallbearer will be Wayne McKnight. Visitation will be from 5:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday and from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Saturday at Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA. Memorials may be made to the Cypress Street Church of God Building Fund or to the Gideon's.
