Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Russell died Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Christus St. Joseph's Home. She grew up mostly in Catahoula Parish and lived in Concordia and Webster parishes and Columbia County, AR. Mrs. Russell worked for the Jesse F. Heard & Sons Construction Company in West Monroe as secretary, payroll clerk, and general assistant. She was an avid reader interested in current events, politics and history. She wrote many letters, on a variety of subjects, to The News Star that was published. Mrs. Russell was active in establishing the first for the local university, The Franky Russell Memorial Jazz Ensemble Scholarship in 1997, and seeing it endowed in December 2004. Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her father, William Fred Roberts; mother, Gracie Irene Roberts; son, Richard Franky Russell; brothers, Wilmer Gene Roberts and James Richard Roberts; and sons' father, Tony Bill Russell, Sr. Survivors include sons, Tony Bill Russell, Jr. and wife Janice Clark of Virginia Beach, VA, Benjy Fred Russell, Sr. and wife Lisa Ramsey of New Albany, IN, and Robert S. Russell and wife Sandi Peters of Monroe, LA; brother, John William (Bill) Roberts, Sr. and wife Shirley Stoneman of Terral, OK; grandchildren, Benjy Fred Russell, Jr., Tony Bill Russell, III, Robyn Renea Smith, Jason Scott Russell, Andrew Scott Russell, and Dakota Russell; great grandchildren, Tyler Smith, Riley Renea Smith, Alexandria Maria Russell, Madison Mae Smith, Isabela Louisa Russell, Corey Shane Russell, and Zackerie Cordell Russell; and many nieces, nephews, and friends scattered over the United States. Visitation will be Sunday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The ULM Franky Russell Jazz Ensemble Scholarship.
