FLORENCE ANNETTE DREW SALISBURY

A memorial service for Florence Annette (Nan) Drew Salisbury, 88, of Monroe, 
LA, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2013 at First United 
Methodist Church, 3900 Loop Road, Monroe, LA with Dr. Larry Stafford 
officiating. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 12 p.m. in the 
church parlor. 

Nan Salisbury was a lifetime resident of Monroe, LA. She was born September 6, 
1924, to James Schultz and Annette Brown Drew. Her grandfather, T.O. Brown, was 
a founder of Northeast Junior College (ULM) and was Superintendent of Ouachita 
Parish School System in which Nan spent her primary and secondary schools 
years. She continued her education at Northeast Junior College and Randolph-
Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, VA. In 1945 she was married to John Arthur 
Salisbury until his death in 1982.

Nan was a Member of First United Methodist Church of Monroe, serving as 
Administrative Board Chairman and Lay Leader. She also served as the first 
director and kindergarten teacher of First United Methodist Day School. 

Nan is survived by her four children: son, Dr. John Drew Salisbury and Gayle of 
Missoula, MT; daughter, Marianne Salisbury Jones and Dr. Floyd T. of Monroe, 
LA; son, Dr. James Arthur Salisbury and Jan of Morganton, NC; and son, Dr. 
Charles Robert Salisbury and Peggy of Mobile, AL. Nan's grandchildren are: 
Sarah and Tyler Salisbury; Elizabeth and Carrie Jones; Mary Drew Breiten and 
husband, Richard; Lauren and Barrett Salisbury; Jill Osmerg and husband, Lars; 
Stephen and David Kreller; and Drew and Daniel Salisbury. Great grandchildren 
are Florence Martinez and Henry Breiten.

Nan was a member of Girl Scouts for fifty-nine years as a volunteer, twenty-
eight of which she served as the Executive Director of Silver Waters Council. 
She was on the Board of St. Patrick's Psychiatric Hospital, a fifty year member 
of Ft. Miro Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial 
Dames, and was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Monroe.

Her hobbies included history, photography, tennis, bicycle riding, travel, and 
spending time with friends and family. Nan is remembered especially for making 
everyone she met feel loved and like family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of 
Monroe, Methodist Children's Home of Ruston, Friends of Ouachita Public 
Library, or a charity of the donor's choice.
