Job Edathinatt officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe. Lucy died at home after a long illness on Monday, April 3, 2017. She was 89 years old. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph C. Sampognaro, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Callie Medile. She was the loving mother of her nine children, Dr. Joseph Sampognaro (Carmen), Carliss Henderson (Jerry), Karen Giannobile (Sal), Judy Doucet (Kenny), Frank Sampognaro (Matilda), Dr. Michael Sampognaro (Laurel), Diana Kelly (Bobby), Mary Newsom (Jeff), and Dr. Gregory Sampognaro (Connie). She also leaves behind 33 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Also she is survived by her two sisters, Katheryn Garbo and Lena Brocato. She was born on April 25, 1927, in Beaumont, Texas, where she graduated from French High School. She had been a resident of Monroe since her marriage in 1949. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church for the past 60 years. She was a wonderful homemaker, cook, seamstress, and gardener. She loved her cats and boxer dogs. All of us will miss the family gatherings on Sundays, for her famous spaghetti and meatballs. Life will never be the same for all of us who loved her. Visitation will be from 1:00PM until 1:45. At 1:45PM there will be a Rosary with the Mass to follow at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Frank Sampognaro, Jr., Edward Sampognaro, Dr. Andrew Doucet, Robby Kelly, Joseph Newsom, Dr. Joseph Giannobile, Chris Henderson, Nick Sampognaro, and Michael J. Sampognaro, Jr. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Charles Morgan, First Choice Hospice, and Americare sitters, Alberta, Selma, Lisa, Dineisha, and Victoria.
