SANDERS Memorial Services for Joseph L. Sanders, 87 of Ruston, will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at The Presbyterian Church of Ruston with Reverend Edith Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Sanders was born August 26, 1928 in Clarks, LA to Mary Frances Gore Sanders and Joseph Luther Sanders. He died August 30, 2015 in Ruston. He had earned his Bachelor of Arts in History at NLU, and his Masters of Social Works at LSU. Mr. Sanders was a Social Worker for the State of Louisiana, La Tech University and Ruston State School. He also did volunteer work for Church Mission Trips of Mexico, Christian Community Action, Group Home Counselor, and was a Little League Coach. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by his sisters: Gladys Meredith and Ann Gordy; brothers: Paul Sanders and Bob Sanders; He is survived by his wife: Mary Alice Smiley Sanders; daughters: Susan Sanders Guillot, Elizabeth "Beth" Sanders, and Mary Frances Sanders Johnson; son: Joe Sanders; sisters: Irma Roan and Katherine Shattuck; grandchildren: Katie Guillot Nelson, Kristen Guillot Michael, Maggie Guillot, Brian Johnson, and Hannah Johnson; great grandchildren: Emmy Catherine Michael. Visitation will be held 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at The Presbyterian Church of Ruston. In lieu of flowers the family request that any donations be made to Christian Community Action, Presbyterian Church of Ruston-Mexico Mission or a charity of your choice .
