KARL DOUGLAS SCHOEN

Karl Douglas Schoen passed from life on April 20, 2013 at his home in Eugene, 
OR. He was 44 years old. 

Karl was born May 28, 1968, in West Monroe, LA, and moved with his family to 
Shreveport, LA where he graduated from Huntington High school in 1986. He 
completed his college studies at Northeastern Louisiana University with a 
Bachelor of Science in 1993 and with a Bachelor of Arts from LSU -Shreveport in 
1997. He served in the United States Marine Corps and achieved the rank of 
Lance Corporal. He fought in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm 
and was permanently injured in combat. He received National Defense Service, 
Southwest Asia, Kuwait Liberation, and Good Conduct Service medals. An avid 
traveler, Karl visited several countries after his separation from the 
military, and came home with stories of orange picking in Israel, dune-buggy 
racing in Morocco, and beach combing in Bali. Karl chose Eugene, OR as his home 
after his extensive travels and resided there for 12 years prior to his death. 
He loved football and basketball and cheered on the Oregon Ducks with 
enthusiasm.

Karl is survived by his sister, Rachel Lenard Trussell and her husband, James 
B. Trussell, both of Fairfield, CA, his step-father, Tom Shahan of Bossier 
City, LA, and numerous extended family members. He is preceded in death by his 
mother, Mary Kathleen Goodwin Shahan, his father, Kurt Douglas Schoen, and his 
maternal grandparents, Rupert and Doris Goodwin.

Karl's remains will be interned with full military honors in Sacramento Valley 
National Cemetery on June 24, 2013 at 10:00 AM in Davis, CA.
