Katherine was born in Monroe, Louisiana, on June 5, 1911, to Kate & Ed Strong, long-time residents of Monroe. She was a 1929 graduate of Monroe City High School. She was married to J. H. "Slim" Scogin on March 3, 1934, in Monroe where they lived and raised their three children. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe until Parkview Baptist Church was formed, where she and her family were charter members. She was a member of Monroe Garden Club, Bayou DeSiard Country Club, and in later life, a member of the Lioness Club of Monroe. She and "Slim" moved to Winnsboro, Louisiana, in 1965, when he became the Chevrolet dealer there. She returned to Monroe after "Slim" died in 1981. She was a resident of Christus St. Joseph's Assisted Living for 10 years, where she made many friends. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at St. Joseph's for all the love, care, and compassion they have showered on Katherine. She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, and "Slim," her husband of 47+ years. She is survived by her children: John Scogin and his wife Dixie of Sachse, Texas, Mary Lynn Scogin Thomas and her husband Joe of Plano, Texas, and Mignon Scogin Riley and her husband Mike of Monroe, Louisiana. She had 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, and niece Peggy Folds Gale, who was raised as a sister, and many other nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, September 5, 2014, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home of Monroe, and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Mulhearn Funeral Home of Monroe. Officiated by Rev. John Dobbs and Rev. Erby Burgess.
