Kenny Sehon was born July 18, 1949 and passed away Monday, March 2, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Dr. Sehon was raised in the Presbyterian Faith and later in his life when he met his wife, Dawn he became a member of the Delhi First Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Betty Schoonover, grandmother-in-law, Jewel Merriweather; special friend, Tommy Bradley; paternal grandparents, Ellis W. Sehon, Velma Sehon, and Macey Sehon. Kenny graduated from Delhi High School, Louisiana Tech University and Louisiana State University Medical School Shreveport. He completed his Internship and Residency in surgery at LSU Medical Center in 1980 and was selected as the outstanding Resident Physician. He was certified by the American Board of Surgery and was a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. Kenny served on various committees as well as published numerous articles and did several presentations. Dr. Sehon held many positions during his medical career including Chief of Staff Richardson Medical Center, Rayville, Board of Commissioners Richland Parish Hospitals, and Professor of Surgery LSU Medical Center Monroe. The family would like to thank all the physicians, nurses, and staff of the SICU - St. Francis Medical Center and Dr. David Rains, Dr. Robert Marshall and the Surgical Staff for their excellent care given to Kenny as well as the kindness and compassion shown to the family while he was in their care during his illness. We would also like to thank the Richardson Medical Surgical Staff for their years of dedication. Dr. Sehon was beloved by his patients and peers alike. He had no enemies and met no strangers. He was a Professor of Surgery for the last decade of his life. He was selected best intern and best resident during his years of training and he carried with him from LSU much more than an understanding of surgical judgment and technique. He had learned and taught rejection of the concept of self and promoted something far finer - a selflessness which links physicians with all of humanity. He thought of his peers in the surgical profession as cherished colleagues rather than competitors and adamantly obeyed the rule that all actions, all actions, at all time should be taken with regard to the best interest of the patient. He was a man who had eyes to see and more importantly a heart to understand, a man whose conscience was burdened because so many of his fellow men were burdened. Perhaps the words of another doctor, Dr. John Donne some three hundred years ago in reference to the philosophy of individual men such as Dr. Sehon is still true today. "Any mans death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls, for it tolls for thee". In this world of constant change, nothing which comes stays, but that which goes is really never lost. Those who are engaged in the most virtuous actions, or who are swayed by the purest motives, are those who never go out of fashion and are those who we would all do well to imitate. Dr. Sehon believed as surgeons and as citizens that we are in this life together. A passage from The Book of Ruth in the Torah of the Jews and in the Bible of the Christians may describe his loyalty to his fellow men best. "Where thou goest I will go, Whether thou lodgest I will lodge and thy people will be my people even, even until the end. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Dawn Sehon of Monroe, LA; children, Jes Sehon of Ruston, LA and Jared Sehon of Monroe, LA; parents, Elizabeth and James Sehon, Sr. of Calhoun, LA; sisters, Sammie Gordon of Monroe, LA and Mary Sehon of Shreveport, LA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
