She was born on June 21, 1915 in Haynesville, Louisiana to her adoring parents, George "Nub" and Stella Seegers Sherman. Following a wonderful childhood, Doris left home to attend Ward Belmont, a finishing school in Nashville. Here she developed a true love of art and continued from there to study at Sophie Newcomb in New Orleans and later to New York School of Interior Design where she refined her talent. After completing her studies, she met and married Bill Shaw of Jefferson, Texas to whom she was devoted until his death. She is also preceded in death by her five brothers and sisters, J.R. Sherman, Martile Haemer, Marion Sherman, George Sherman and Roger Sherman. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her children and their spouses, Sherman and Jean Shaw, Paula and Hugh Hardee, Cristy and David McCallum, and Billy and Hope Shaw. She also leaves behind 10 devoted Grandchildren Hamp Hardee, Luke McCallum, Paige Malley, Holly Boyd, Stuart Shaw, Abby Mauwong, Alli Mackey, Lacy Pfaff, Shooter Shaw, Emily McCallum, their spouses, many Great Grandchildren, loving friends and family. Special thanks go to Jack Sanders and Staff at the Sabine Retirement and Rehab Center. During her lifetime, Doris touched the lives of many with her generosity and sharing of her talent for numerous activities in the community. She started the XYZ club to provide activities for senior citizens at the Coushatta First Methodist Church and logged many volunteer hours at Riverdale Academy teaching art to the young. She leaves behind a legacy of her artwork in paintings, sketches and cook books all over her beloved state of Louisiana. We know that Doris's example as a great parent, grandparent, friend and community member will continue to live on and inspire all who were blessed to know her. We are thankful that she is now at peace and if there is a dance floor in heaven she is probably cutting the rug with her favorite dance partner, Bill, to "In the Mood". You will be missed, Mama Doris. Memorial services for Doris Shaw will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, 2020 Front Street, Coushatta, LA with Luke McCallum and Rev. John Kavanaugh officiating.
