She was born at home in Concord Community, West Carroll Parish, where she lived until graduating from Kilbourne High School in 1956. She entered Northeast Louisiana State College in Monroe, LA where she met her future husband, Norwood Shelton, Jr. Following her graduation in August, 1959, they married on January 27, 1960 at the Concord Christadelphian Chapel. Monroe became their permanent home. She was a Biology Science teacher, beginning at Bastrop High School in 1961, transferred to Sterlington High School in 1962, and then to Swartz Junior High School in 1971, retiring in 1980. "Mrs Shelton" dearly loved her students, and would reminisce about the good old days of teaching. She was preceded in death by her parents Stafford E. and Leone Sanders Heard; parents-in-law Norwood and Opal Clement Shelton of West Monroe. As a Christadelphian for over 50 years, she devoted her life to using her talents in God's service through Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. Survivors include her husband Norwood Shelton, daughters Elaine Shelton and Susanne Howe and husband Steve, son Bradley Shelton, grandson Michael Bruscato, Jr. and wife Whitney, granddaughter Laura Manning and husband Lee, grandson Jeffrey Howe, great granddaughter Abigail Kate Bruscato, the sunshine of her last days. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013 beginning at 10:00AM until time for funeral services at 1:00PM at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Bro. Pat Hamilton will preside over the services assisted by Bro Steve Howe. Graveside services and interment will follow at Concord Cemetery, Hwy 585, Oak Grove, La. Serving as pallbearers are Michael Bruscato, Jr., Mark McCallum, Lee Manning, David Shelton, Harold Thomas, and Wendel Shelton.
