L. "Bud" Shepard will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe, LA with Dr. Dennis Swanberg and Rev. Jo Ann Pounds officiating. There will be a visitation from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe. Bud was born in Plano, TX on December 25, 1923 and passed away on January 9, 2017 in Monroe, LA. After growing up in Plano, TX and traveling all over Texas with his grandfather, Bud attended Texas A & M. During his freshman year World War II started and Bud enlisted in the Army after his spring semester. He joined the paratroopers, 101st Airborne and started jump training in England. He was then deployed to Holland and served his country in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he returned to Texas for a short time. In 1949 he moved to Oak Ridge, Louisiana to assist his brother, Buck, farming. While helping on the farm he sold farm equipment and ran the local cotton gin. Bud went on to produce 69 crops through 2016. He married Mary Lou Young and moved to West Monroe to start his family. During his years in West Monroe he was an active member of First Baptist Church, West Monroe and was on the Dixie Youth Baseball Board of Directors. After Mary Lou's death, he later married Sylvia Bacon and moved to Mer Rouge, LA. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Mer Rouge and served on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Oak Ridge, and the Board of Directors of the Oak Ridge Agricultural Corporation. He was very supportive and generous to his children and grandchildren. He was proud and loved each one of them. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maude Goode Shepard and father, Clint Edwin Shepard; his wife, Mary Lou Young Shepard; brothers, William Edwin Shepard, Clint Elmer Shepard, and Haggard Goode Shepard. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Bacon Shepard; his children, Matt Shepard, Mark Shepard (Melissa), Luke Shepard, John Shepard (Gayle), George Bacon (Rosanne), Joe Bacon and Liz Rizer (Bryan); grandchildren, Clinton Shepard (Taylor), Grant Shepard, Jon Mark Shepard, Judge Shepard, Mary Claire Shepard, Connor Bacon, Ben Rizer, and Kyra Bacon and much loved nieces and nephews. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to Premiere Hospice, Senior Care Services and Dr. John Ledbetter. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Mer Rouge or the charity of your choice .
