SHIVERS Funeral services for Lester J. Shivers, age 88, will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday October 3, 2016, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Monroe, LA with Fr. Joe Martina officiating. Interment will be held at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd., Monroe. Lester was born on April 20, 1928, in Natchitoches, LA and passed away on October 1, 2016 at his home in Monroe, LA after a lengthy illness. In the early 1950's, Lester came to Monroe and worked for Dr. Pepper as a route salesman making many friends along the way as he served customers throughout north Louisiana. He met Julia Tubbs while in Monroe and they were married in 1955. Lester and Julia made a great team in several businesses throughout their marriage. Many local sportsmen, on their way to enjoy hunting and fishing in our sportsman's paradise, as well as neighborhood kids will remember visiting with Lester and Julia at Fil-A-Sak Grocery which was located across the street from North Monroe Hospital for 30 years. Lester was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Shivers; parents, Homer and Maude Shivers; brothers, Wickliff Shivers and Marion Shivers. Lester is survived by his three children, Joseph Shivers of Rowlett, TX; Carol Durham and husband, Ragan of Monroe, LA; Lori Kanski and husband, Marty of Lucas, TX; six grandchildren, Joshua Durham and wife Nicole of Dallas, TX; Matthew Durham and wife Stephanie of Monroe, LA; Mark Durham and wife Julie of Monroe, LA; Jennifer Kanski Payne and husband Eric of Estacada, OR; Amanda Kanski of Austin, TX; and Eric Kanski of Lucas, TX; great-grandchildren, Luke Durham and Carson Durham of Monroe, LA; and Aurora Payne and Orion Payne of Estacada, OR. Pallbearers will be Larry Shivers, Kenny Shivers, Randy Shivers, Andrew Scurria, James Thaxton and Eric Kanski. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of First Choice Hospice for their support, encouragement and loving care given to Lester. Visitation will be Sunday, October 2, 2016, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home on Sterlington Rd., in Monroe.
