On Thursday, May 17, 2009 Max went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom he faithfully served throughout his life. Being a servant for his family, church and Sunday School Class was truly his gift from God. Before moving to Columbia in 1970, Max worked for Phillips Petroleum and Tidewater Marine where he made many friends in California and Alaska. He was always known to be a hard working successful businessman, so he used these qualities to open the Napa Auto Parts Store, where he served others for over twenty years. During his years in Columbia, he loved serving his community by being President of the Industrial Board for eight years and served on the Board of Directors at Citizens Medical Center. After retiring, he was then able to dedicate his full time to his wife, daughter and three grandchildren, whom he adored. He has temporarily left behind his wife of 59 years, Betty Evans Shores, his only daughter, Lesa Shores Rhodes and son-in-law, Greg Rhodes, grand children: Ali Michael Carter, Alexa Leigh Carter, and Michael Cole Carter. Max was adored by his family, his friends and his community and will truly be missed by all who knew him.
