Carrie Mae was the wife of the late Alfred Lloyd Short, Sr. She was born May 15, 1927 in Monroe, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Reverend Floyd and Adelaide Gray. She took great pride and joy in her children, Patricia Pecot (Cornelius) of Atlanta, Georgia, Alfred Short, Jr. (Ann) of Marysville, Ohio, Dennis Short (Angela) of Atlanta, Georgia and Yvette Short of Monroe, Louisiana. She treasured her family, especially her grandchildren and friends. A graduate of Grambling State University in 1964, Mrs. Short was a dedicated educator with Monroe City Schools, Delta Career College and one of the original founders of Zion Springs Baptist Church. She was exceptionally noted for being the first African American educator at Thomas Jefferson Junior High School, a member of LED, a member of the Louisiana textbook adoption committee and an advocate for the development of the No Child Left Behind Act. Carrie Mae Short and Alfred Short were the proud business owners of Casablanca Lounge, a barbershop and constant contributors of service to the Monroe community. The funeral service will take place at 10am, Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Zion Springs Baptist Church, under the direction of the Richardson Funeral Home, Monroe Louisiana.
