Job Edathinatt officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Josephine Scalia Tucker Simmons, a retired Registered Nurse, passed away on July 16, 2014. She was a native of Monroe, LA. She was born June 20, 1920, in Monroe, LA, to Frank A. and Lucille (Forbito) Scalia. Josephine was a graduate of Neville High School class of 1937. She graduated from the St. Francis School of Nursing and was a Registered Nurse for over forty years working at St. Francis, Glenwood, and Richland Parish hospitals. She also was a private duty nurse for many area families in the years before Home Health. She made life-long friends of the families who called on her to nurse a loved one who needed professional home care. Nursing was her calling and flowers and plants were her passion. She belonged to local and state flower societies and clubs and was active in the Orchid Society of Northeast Louisiana until her failing eye-sight prevented her from attending meetings. For many years she raised and showed numerous varieties of orchids at Orchid Shows throughout the U.S. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and sang in the church choir. Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, H.S. Simmons; and three brothers, Angelo Scalia, William Patrick Scalia, and Dr. Roy F. Scalia. She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Tucker Moore and husband Paul of Monroe, LA; sister, Eunice Scalia Andrews and husband Bud of West Monroe, LA; step-daughter, Bonnie Hendrix of Eunice, LA ; two step-sons, Bob Simmons of Eunice, LA and Bill Simmons of Monroe; grandchildren, Susan Manuel and her children, Mya and Carly of Baton Rouge, LA; Ryan Wright and his son, Tucker of Irving TX; Cory Wright of Monroe; step-granddaughter, Johnette Wade Butel and husband Greg and their children, Logan and Johnny of Richardson, TX; step- grandson, Steve Wade of Monroe, and numerous nieces and nephews. Josephine also enjoyed being "Mama Jo" to the Jim Spillers family of West Monroe. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
