MELVIN SLACK

Melvin Slack, a lifelong resident of Monroe, LA departed this life on Saturday, 
October 31, 2015 at the John McClellan Veterans' Hospital in Little Rock, AR. 
He was the 6th child of 10 siblings born to the late Roosevelt, Sr. and 
Levester Slack. He was a graduate of Richardson High School where he was an 
ALL-Star athlete. He later joined the United States Marine Corps and served his 
country honorably.

He was happily married to his childhood sweetheart for 47 years, Jackie Spivey 
Slack and to this union one son was born, Melvin Gerard Slack. He was a father 
to Kim Spivey (Neal) Angrum and many others. Remembering him also are his 
grandchildren: Trey, Jasmine, Angelic, Emanuel and Nehemiah Slack; Alexus 
Angrum and Channyn Stanley; sisters-Brenda Williams and Joyce Slack; brothers-
Benois King, Roosevelt, Jr (Frances), Robert (Jannie), Carl (Jackie), Michael 
(Darlene), Gary and Levi (Jackie) Slack; brother-in-law Raymond (Gwen) Spivey; 
sisters-in-law Shirley Spivey, Mary H. Wright and Cathe' Varner-Spivey, along 
with a host of many other relatives and friends who loved him dearly.

Visitation will be Friday, November 6, 2015 from 1:00-3:00PM at Smith Funeral 
Home with the family hour from 5:00-7:00PM at the New Daughters of Zion Baptist 
Church of West Monroe, LA. Celebration of Life services will be at 11:00AM 
Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Piney Grove Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA. 
Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Monroe, LA.
