SMART Rose-Neath Funeral Home Arcadia, LA A celebration of life will be held at the Oak Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church for Samuel Lee Smart of Simsboro, LA., on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will be Friday night, October 24, 2008, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Sam was born on November 5, 1926, to Samuel E. and Iva Grigsby Smart, on the family farm located between Simsboro and Arcadia, where he and his wife Mary continued to make their home until his death on October 22, 2008. On November 22, 2008, they would have celebrated their marriage of 58 years. After graduating form Simsboro High School, he served as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne during WWII. After returning to the Arcadia area, he was employed by the Arcadia Production Credit Association. In 1952, Mr. Smart established 'Sam L. Smart Plumbing and Electric Company', and opened his office in Arcadia in 1953, which is still owned and operated by his son. Sam was a member of the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He also served on the Board for the Oak Grove Cemetery Association, and is a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Smart is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel E. Smart and Iva Grigsby Smart and a son, Samuel Lee Smart, Jr. He is survived by his wife Mary Watson Smart, sons, James Donald Smart and wife Anita Murphy Smart, and William Thomas Smart, brother, James Thomas Smart and wife Peggy Holland Smart, grandchildren, Jennifer Cardwell, Christie Sanderson, James Donald Smart, Jr., Jason Thomas Smart, Casey Merritt, Kelley Smart, Daniel Joseph Smart, Virginia Elizabeth Smart, William Samuel Smart, Christie Murphy, and Mona Smart, great-grandchildren, Leanna Cardwell, Greer and Rockie Sanderson, Dustin Smart, Phillip Smart, Tyra, Christin and Michael Murphy, Jessica Smart, special brothers-in-law, Don Watson and Lamar Dowling, and a sister-in-law, Martha Dowling. Pallbearers will be Daniel Smart, Jason Smart, Matt Sanderson, Chris Merritt, Phillip Smart, and Tony Nixon. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donnie Smart, Curt Taylor, Travis Stewart, Tine Harrison, Dennis Boyett, his high school classmates, "Buck" Canterbury, Harold Bartlett, Claude Calahan and Spencer Goodwin, Robert Sumlin.
