Terry Mims officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Carlton Cecil Smith of Monroe, La passed away on January 11, 2013 at the age of 86 after a lengthy illness. Carlton was born on November 12, 1926 in Grayson, LA to parents Harold Wade Smith and Audra Freeman Smith. He graduated from Grayson High School in 1943, and then from Northeast Louisiana State College in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. He received the Freshman Chemistry Achievement Award for 1957 - 1958, the Grant Collins Pharmacy Award, in addition to many other honors and awards. An active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Monroe, he sang in the choir and at various times served as Sunday School teacher and Choir Director. He further served the Lord by ministering with his guitar and singing at area nursing homes, as well as the Council on Aging in Monroe. Carlton became well known to many in the area during the 22 years he owned and operated Bell's Pharmacy on Desiard St. in downtown Monroe. He was a member of the Louisiana Pharmacy Association, and a former Gideon. With all of his accomplishments, the most important part of Carlton's life was his family. Husband to Mary Ellen Pace Smith, his bride of 66 years, he was very proud of his six children, and multitude of grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. Carlton was survived by his wife, Ellen; and his children, Jerry Lynn Cloud, Mary Kay Young, Phyllis Ann Williams, and Gregory Wade Smith; twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, David Cecil Smith; his daughter, Bettina Rae Hitchcock; and his grandson, James Carlton Green. Pallbearers will be Steven Tillman, Tristan Smith, Eric Green, Alex Smith, Jacob Green, Camdon Green, Randy Greer, and David Smith, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Dave Tisdale, Larry Cooper, Billy Cooper, Wallace Olinde, Walter Pierron, and Gene Bruscato. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
