Born on March 30, 1922 in Hopewell Community of Union County; she was the daughter of Olin and Loamie Elizabeth Edwards Fielder. Virginia married William J "Red" Greer in 1940. They had two children, William James Greer, Jr. and Carol Greer Shaver. While living in El Dorado, she and her family were members of the Immanuel Baptist Church. After her husband's death in 1967, she married Edward Bruce Smith. They moved to Garland, Texas where she lived for a number of years until he passed away. They were active members of the Jupiter Road Baptist Church. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, her son and by her brothers Aubrey Fielder, Noel Fielder, Gascal Fielder, and her sisters Fern Owens and Vesta Selman. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Greer Shaver, of Monroe, LA, and a sister Mary Herring of Orlando, Fl. Other surviving relatives include: granddaughters Debbie Greer Ryan of Haynesville, LA, Terri Elaine (Randy) McElroy of Sachse, TX and grandsons William Paul (Angela) Greer of Junction City, AR, Tony (Shannon) Wood of El Dorado, AR. and 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Graveside services will be at Noon, Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Arlington Memorial Park with the Rev. Paula Claire Hall officiating. The family will receive friends from10:00 am until service time at Young's Funeral Directors, 508 Champagnolle Road, El Dorado, AR. 71730 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to River Cities Humane Society for Cats, 5302 DeSiard St, Monroe, LA 71203.
