Gordon "Skip" Dean officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Garden Cemetery in Calhoun, LA. Mr. Smith was born in Shreveport on September 19, 1932 and passed away on December 25, 2008. Don was a ham radio operator (K5QK) and a member of A-1 Operator Club and DX Century Club. Don had made many contacts around the world. He was a Christian and a member of Highland Baptist Church. Don retired from Riverwood after 30 years of service in the Data Processing Department. Mr. Smith was a graduate of Tennessee Military Institute and Northeast Louisiana University. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Don is preceded in death by his mother, Maxine McDonald Dufilho; and great aunts, Louise and Alice Schroeder. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Struben Smith; sons, Donald M. Smith, Jr. and wife Tammy of Smyrna, TN, Stephen C. Smith, and Peter S. Smith and wife Cindy of Monroe; sister in-law, Martha Traylor and husband Judge Charles Traylor; brother in-law, Stephen Struben and wife Billie; and grandchildren, Daniel, Brittany, Matthew, and Zachary Smith, Christian Amy and Christopher Lewis. Pallbearers will be Nathan Traylor, H.A. Head, Ron Donaldson, Trevor Land, Bob Colvin, and Chuck Traylor. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until service time Saturday at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
