IRMA GERTRUDE JOINER SMITH

Funeral Services for Irma Gertrude Joiner Smith, 85, of West Monroe, LA will be 
held at 2:00PM Tuesday, July 22, 2014 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, 
West Monroe with Dr. Jim Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow in the Hasley 
Cemetery, West Monroe. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM until service time on 
Tuesday.

Gertrude Smith was born on July 16, 1929 in Monroe, LA and passed away on July 
20, 2014 at her residence in West Monroe, LA. She taught school for over 20 
years, mostly at Jefferson Jr. High in Monroe. She was a member of Ridge Avenue 
Baptist Church where she especially enjoyed her Fellowship Sunday School class. 
Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 64 years, Joseph Carl 
Smith; brothers, James W. Joiner and Elmer S. Joiner; and sister, Bernice 
Bradford.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Rutherford and husband Gary of 
Virginia; grandson, Ryan Carl Rutherford of Virginia; granddaughter, Robyn 
Nicole Rutherford of West Virginia; great-grandsons, Adam Cason and wife 
Stephanie of Oklahoma, Zachery Ray of Florida, Hunter Jordan Rutherford of 
Virginia, and Tristan Philip Alkire of West Virginia; great-great granddaughter, 
Ava Cason; brother, Charles J. Joiner of California; and numerous nieces and 
nephews.

Pallbearers will be Gary Rutherford, Ryan Rutherford, Hunter Rutherford, Tommy 
Lawson, Randy Manning, and Larkin Mulhearn. The Fellowship Sunday School Class 
at Ridge Avenue will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
