A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM for family and close friends, with Dr. James Potts officiating, with visitation to follow. She died in Glenwood Regional Medical Hospital the morning of September 16 after a nearly three year courageous fight with cancer. In accordance with her wishes, her body was cremated. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Steven J. Smith; her parents, Pam and Jerry Holmes; her brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Serena Holmes; her great aunt, Sarah Richmond; and several sisters, April Martin, Julie Le Fleur and her husband Roger, Mary Robertson and her husband George, Gigi Nolte Turner and her husband Michael, Deborah Daren Glenn, and Sharon Seabaugh; very good friends, Ilana Wahler, Doyle Wilson, Jody Moorehead, Ken Brown and Lynn, and Mark Moore, all of Monroe; her mother-in-law, Barbara Stanford; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Karen and Jerry McIntyre and Linda and Dick Dupree, all of Oak Grove. Deborah was born in Tylertown, MS, educated in Monroe, received the Associate Degree in Horticulture and a BS with a concentration in business from NLU. She worked at the Palace, Wellans, and Royal Feed and Seed, as well as being involved in craft work. She loved music, reading, traveling, family and friends, and her beloved cats, Gizmo, Hoover, and Eureka. The family wishes to thank Dr. Robert Elliott and Dr. Bryan Barnett and the staff of the Elliott, Elliott, and Head Breast Oncology Unit of Baton Rouge and the hospitalists and staff of Glenwood Regional Medical Center, especially Dr. Ron Hammett and the ICU staff for their care of Debbie. She did not "go gentle into that good night." Throughout this time the family has been blessed again with the value of friendship. In lieu of flowers, any desired memorials could be made to the Susan J. Komen Breast Cancer Fund or to the River Cities Humane Society for Cats.
