Dale Mercer and Rev. Mike Staples officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chatham, LA. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Herman Massey and Lera Taylor Simons; two sisters, Linda Wheelis and Jean Thornton. Mrs. Smith passed away Monroe, September 4, 2017, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe. She was the essence of what a pastor's wife should be and she loved the roll life dealt her with patience, determination and love. She put God number one in her life and family number two. She loved anytime family members could get together or just show up unexpected. She loved the times when she could travel around to various churches and sing with family and friends. Her alto voice will be missed. Survivors include her husband, Rev. Sherwood Smith; her daughter, Sheree Smith (Ralph Johnson); her sons, Freddie Smith (Sharon) and Donnie Smith; grandchildren, Jeff Rawls (Debra Holdiness and girls), Joey Rawls (LeAnn), Jennifer Ortego (Matt) and Caleb Smith (fiancée, Staci Swinea); great grandchildren, Cullen Rawls (Anna), Kyler Rawls and Keelin Rawls; one fifth generation great-great granddaughter, Ella Grace Rawls; two loving brothers, William Massey (Genell) and Terry Massey (Thelma); uncle, Everett Massey; along with numerous nieces, nephews and great friends. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Smith's grandsons, Jeff Rawls, Joey Rawls, Caleb Smith, Cullen Rawls, Kyler Rawls, Keelin Rawls, and nephew, Greg Massey. Her family would like to express special thanks to all of her doctors and nurses; Ouachita Dialysis for taking good care of her and loving her; and all of her friends that called or visited with her. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M until 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.
