Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. Dr. Michael Hawley will officiate. Interment will follow at the Douglas Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. The family will receive visitors prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Melba was born February 6, 1912 in Ruston, LA to Henry and Lela Liner. She lived to the blessed age of 105. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Wyatt Liner, Printice Liner, and J. T. Liner; sisters, Thelma Atkins and Leslie Stewart. Melba is survived by her three children: Patricia (Roy) Pharis of DeQuincy, LA, Jerry (Lou Ann) Smith, and Faye (Cliff) McMichael, both of Ruston; ten grandchildren: Trent (Sandy) Pharis, Debbie (Mike) Johnson, Kenny (Anne) Pharis, Mark (Brandy) Pharis all of DeQuincy, LA; Susie (Bill) Clendenen, Allen (Brooke) Smith, both of Ruston; Tammy (Sean) McCall of Mt. Holly, AR; Ricky (Sarah) Watley, Vicky (Brian) Weaver, both of Calhoun, LA; and Scotty (Elizabeth) Watley of Kilgore, TX; twenty-one great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and another great-great grandchild due in January; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be the six grandsons. Melba was a dedicated mother and grandmother and truly lived her life for her children and grandchildren. She was a gracious host to anyone visiting her home and made sure no one left hungry. She took pride in her home and lawn which she reluctantly gave up mowing herself at the age of 100. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Arbor and Terrace staff and Compassus Hospice for the loving care they gave our mother her last years with us.
