SMITH Monroe - Funeral services celebrating the life of James C. (Jim) Smith, 98, of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Tom McCurley and Rev. Ronald L. Richardson officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until service time Saturday at the church. Mr. Smith was born September 12, 1920, in Athens, LA, and passed away Monday, January 28, 2019, at his residence. He was the owner/operator of Twin City Auto Parts for 28 years. Jim was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for over 50 years, was a deacon, and served his church in numerous capacities. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp and served during World War II, where he was a Corporal on a B- 29 crew. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Louisiana. He was a 33rd degree Mason of the D.A. Strickland Masonic Lodge #465 and was the former chaplain for the State Lodge. He was a devoted husband of 78 years to the love of his life, Cecile, and they enjoyed traveling around the country with friends. He believed in staying active, and enjoyed Elk hunting in the Colorado Rockies and tending his beautiful rose garden. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Cecile S. Smith; daughter, Carolyn Jo Smith Richardson; parents, Burton Calton and Emilee Alford Smith; brothers, William, Russell, and B.C. Jr.; and sisters, Mary Elizabeth (Libby) Bordan and Thelma Garris. Survivors include his son-in-law, Rev. Ronald L. Richardson; granddaughters, Susan G. Richardson and Pamela Turner and husband John; grandson, John C. Richardson; great-grandchildren, Emilee, Jack, and Lillian Turner, and Nona and Juniper Richardson; sister, Rheida Skiles; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Pallbearers will be O. C. Watson, Charles Dean, Jimmy Vallery, C. C. (Red) Garris, Roe Morris, and John Richardson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Fitzgerald, Gabe Griffin, and Clint Shepard. The family wishes to extend many thanks to Heart of Hospice and Always Best Care - Senior Care Service for their exceptional care and compassion. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Sue McGinn, Susan Cordell, the ladies of Emmanuel Baptist church, and members of the Wednesday night cooking team at St. Paul's United Methodist Church for countless lovingly prepared meals and special care given to our grandparents.
