During college, she met and married Jeff Speed on July 2, 1994. They made their home in Jackson, Mississippi. At age 41, Joan was granted her angel wings and met her heavenly Father on May 31, 2016. Her final days were spent on an action packed vacation in Florida surrounded by her family. Joan had touched each one in many ways throughout her very memorable life. Joan's life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of her existence far exceeded the quantity of time in which she lived. Her gentle smile, hugs for all, and support in difficult times brought so much joy to her family and friends. Joan had an unwavering faith in God. She was always laughing, full of excitement and fun. She taught both of her sons the power of prayer, the courage to face each day, reminded them constantly how precious their lives were to her. She loved their 3 labs, Duke, Cash, and Dixie. She was a full time mother, but would spend hours helping her husband with his commercial real estate ventures. She had established her own business, Rejuvenation. She and Jeff had recently created Speed Brothers' Construction for their two sons. Joan was also the perfect outdoor companion for husband Jeff and their sons, Hayden and Bailey. She enjoyed planning holidays and special events for the entire family, their sons' friends, and a loving circle of her friends. Joan received accolades for her love of entertaining, decorating, obvious love for cooking, and creating recipes. Joan is survived by her devoted husband of 22 years, Jeff Speed; sons, Hayden and Bailey Speed,; her loving parents, Rickey and Jeanette Ellington; sisters, Jenny and Lisa; maternal grandparent, Barbara Harper; aunt, Brenda Scheppf; fraternal uncle, Mike Adcock; and special friend and cousin, Jennifer Harper Hudak; mother-in-law, Jean B.
