STEPHENSON Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA Ivy Jeff "I.J." Stephenson, 81, of Monroe, LA died on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 after a brief illness. He was born on December 21, 1927 in Crowville, LA to the late parents of Jeff and Jenny Weeks Stephenson. Formerly of Bastrop, LA, I.J. retired from International Paper Company and owned and operated Friendly Services Laminating for the last twenty-five years. He was a Marine Veteran of WWII. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a true fan of baseball and football when he was not playing his favorite game of dominos with his children, grandchildren, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clem of CA and Grover of Bastrop, LA; and sisters, Mary Rawls of Crowville, LA and Stella Houston of Ferriday, LA. Survivors include his wife, Tina DeBlieux Stephenson, who he married on October 18, 1952; his four children, Karen Hudson of Monroe, LA; Beverly Murphy and her husband Hugh "Bo" Murphy of Charleston, SC; Steven "Steve" Stephenson and his wife Lorri of Bastrop, LA; and James "Jay" Stephenson and his companion Ralph Zender of Monroe, LA. Five grandchildren include Heath Murphy of Aiken, SC, Amanda Leggett and her husband Chad of Bastrop, LA; Casey Hudson of Monroe, LA; Megan Murphy of New York, NY; and Stephanie Stephenson of Bastrop, LA; and great grandchildren, Samantha and Hunter Leggett of Bastrop, LA; three sisters, Pauline Houston of Monroe, LA; Lucille Montgomery of Baton Rouge, LA; and Mae Briley of Alexandria, LA. Visitation will be Friday, September 18, 2009 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA followed with a vigil wake service at 7:00 PM. A Memorial Mass will be Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 10:00 AM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Swartz, LA with Rev. Job Edathinatt officiating. Graveside services will be private. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Glosup, Elroy Glosup, Jim Luzader, Donald Yeldell, and Floyd Stephenson. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses of St. Francis Medical Center and a special appreciation to Dr. Craig Turner and Dr. Thomas Gulick for the care, kindness, and concern given to our beloved I.J. and entire family.
