STRAUSS Kilpatrick Funeral Home Monroe, La Ernest M. Strauss died Monday, November 10, 2008, at his home in Monroe, Louisiana. Services for Mr. Strauss will be at Kilpatrick Funeral Home on Lamy Lane in Monroe at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 13, 2008. Visitation will be at 1:00 P.M. at Kilpatrick's prior to the service. Rabbi A. David Packman from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma will conduct the services. Interment will follow at Monroe Memorial Park Mausoleum under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Homes of Monroe. Mr. Strauss was born March 17, 1916 in Gauersheim, Germany and was a student at the Heidelberg University before immigrating to the United States in 1937. Mr. Strauss enlisted in the US Air Force and was a proud veteran of WWII. Mr. Strauss lived the true American dream, having sailed to America with $50 in his pocket and only a limited English vocabulary. He started work for his uncle, Mr. Fred "Pap" Strauss, in the F. Strauss and Son warehouse. Before he retired, he was President of the Wine and Spirits division of Strauss Industries. Mr. Strauss was a member of the Temple B'Nai Israel. He was a supporter of the arts and a Life Board Member of the Strauss Theatre. He and his wife, Janis, greatly enjoyed the Monroe Symphony and the concert series. Mr. Strauss was a 60 years member of the Rotary club and was recently honored for this accomplishment. He was a member of the Bayou DeSiard Country Club and the Lotus Club. He enjoyed playing golf and was a regular member of the Wednesday night bridge club. Mr. Strauss was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Max Strauss of Monroe and his devoted wife of 59 years, Janis Holloway. He is survived by his daughter, Gail and her husband, Leonard Bunch. His granddaughters are: Janis Barraza and her husband, Mike and their four children, Michael, Julie, Aimee and Daniel of Monroe, LA; Sally and her husband, David Mouton and their three children: Mary, David, and Michael of Houston, TX and Holly and her husband, Joe Dencker and their three children: Wesley, Sarah, and Emma of Denver, Co. Pallbearers will be Fred Spurlock, Ford Pipes, Morris Mintz, Saul Mintz, Frank Wilcox and Dr. Mike Barraza. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Hardee, Sackman Marx, Dr. Stanley Mintz and Dr. Fred Marx.
