STROUD Memorial Services for Thomas "Tommy" P. Stroud, Sr., 84, of West Monroe, LA will be held 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 19, 2015 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Rev. David Moreland officiating. Interment will be in Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL at a later date. Mr. Tommy was born May 17, 1930 in Duplin County, North Carolina and passed away on May 15, 2015 in West Monroe, LA after a brief illness. He was a member of Cedar Crest Baptist Church. Tommy was a career Law Enforcement Officer who retired from West Monroe Police Department in 1980 with the rank of Captain. He served with the West Monroe City Marshal's Office for 30 years and retired as Chief Deputy in 1995 and was also a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1948-1952. He was ordained as a minister in 1998 and served as a pastor at New Hope Baptist Church in Englewood, FL until 2004. Tommy was a 50 year member of the Masons and was honored in 2013 as a Master Mason by the J.C. Stewart Lodge #420. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Issac T. Stroud and Esther P. Stroud of Wake Forest, North Carolina; sister, Mildred Brooks; and brothers, Albert, David, and Jerry Stroud. Survivors include his wife, Virginia J. Stroud; children, Becky Blacksher and husband Dan of Ringgold, LA, Ricky Stroud of Lake Providence, LA, Marcey Stroud of Canton, OH, and Thomas P. Stroud, Jr. and wife Jodi of Sarasota, FL; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph Stroud; sisters, Sue Todd, Doris Eller, and Kappy Goslee; and numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the West Monroe Marshal's Office. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice .
