Greeting her in heaven were her husband of 44 years Dr. Bobby Tabarlet, her parents David and Bess Cook and her brothers Donald and James. College roommate and life-long friend, Lydia David Coleman, was also in the company to greet her. Anne was born in Ruston, LA on June 15, 1930 and graduated from Ruston High School in 1947, Louisiana College in 1951 and received her Master's Degree in Education from LSU in 1958. She was a life-long educator, completely devoted to changing the lives of the students under her care. Her elementary school career included stops in Jonesboro, Ruston and Shreveport. In 1981, she was chosen to establish the Performing Arts Magnet School at South Highlands Elementary and served as Principal until her retirement in 1987. She worked and persevered to create what is now one of the top elementary schools in the country. Capturing her heart and spirit as well over the years was her passion for her church. Beginning in Ruston, West Monroe and especially for over 40 years at First Baptist Church in Shreveport, her joy was her Sunday School class. Even at the end as her health declined, the ministry of the telephone class encouraged her. Grateful for her life and cherishing her memory as mom and grandmother are her sons: John E. Tabarlet of Shreveport and Joseph (Joey) O. Tabarlet of Belton, TX, his wife Martha and their children Libby and James. In addition, numerous other family and close friends share in the loss of this remarkable woman. Giving her great comfort in her last days was the pastoral team from First Baptist Church of Dr. Jeff Raines and Ronney Joe Webb. The family also wishes to extend grateful thanks for years of faithful service and care to Dr. Woody Wilson. A celebration of Anne's life and legacy will be held on Saturday, June 8th, 2013 at 11 o'clock at Frost Chapel of First Baptist Church in Shreveport. A family visitation hour will precede at 10 o'clock in the church parlor. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church Missions Ministry, 543 Ockley Drive Shreveport, LA 71106.
