Visitation for Gloria Tanner will take place at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, New Orleans, Louisiana on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 12 noon, with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following, and internment at St. Louis Cemetery Number Three, New Orleans, Louisiana. The daughter of Rosemary Thomas Candiff (the late) and Albert Candiff (the late), she was born at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA. She was preceded in death by parents as well as her sister Mildred Lucien of Sacramento, California, and two brothers Albert Candiff and Marcel Candiff of New Orleans, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her ex-husband Wilfred Allen Tanner, Sr. and she is survived by their five children: Jacinta Tanner Mathis and her husband Samuel of Ridgefield, Connecticut, Wilfred Allen Tanner and his wife Antonia of Los Angeles, California, Maria Goretti "Gingerbread" Tanner and her companion Angelamia Bachemin of New Orleans, Louisiana, Ralph Anthony Tanner, and his wife Susanne of El Paso, Texas, and Glorious Theresa Tanner Ross and her husband Richard of Gulfport, Mississippi. In addition, she is survived by her siblings, Matilda Palfry of Seattle, Washington, Emelda Hall of Orlando, Florida, Marian Robinson Ross of Monroe, Louisiana, Joycelyn Ayers, and her husband Clifford, Elaine Stokes, and her husband Willie both of Chicago, Illinois and Jaleel Hameed, and his spouse of Atlanta, Georgia. She is also survived by numerous loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She graduated with honors from Delgado Junior College with an Associates Degree in Music. She was a dedicated catholic, attending church daily and praying the rosary multiple times each day. Gloria was a devoted member of the Knights of St. Peter Claver Milunnon Chapter 4 Ladies of Grace, Ladies of Victory Court 50, New Orleans, Louisiana, Court 73, Reserve, Louisiana, Third Order Lay Carmelite and she was associated with The Franciscan Handmaidens of the Most Pure Heart of Mary in Harlem, New York. She worked for AT&T - BellSouth for 27 years and was one of the first women to become a telephone switchman. After retirement, she was an enthusiastic member of the Wal-Mart Pharmacy staff. Gloria Tanner loved Wal-Mart. She was a world traveler, avid reader and dedicated worker. May she rest in peace.
