He was born in Farmerville, LA on January 11, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents William Thomas and Thelma Tatum. Don was a loving father and husband who loved God first and his family second. He was a member of Parkhills Baptist Church. He touched many people's lives with God's love and set a great example of a Godly man to his family and friends. He taught Sunday School and was a deacon in his church for many years. He was an engineer who served in several executive positions in the paper industry. He loved spending time with his family, running, watching the San Antonio Spurs, playing games and cards, as well as having close friends over for a nice meal. He always put others first and desired to make a difference in their lives. Don is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Nancy Smith Tatum, his children: Brian Tatum (Melissa), Kevin Tatum (Christy), and Donna Tatum Johnson (Jerromy), and his grandchildren: Kyle, Jamie Lynne, Nick, Dylan, Ryan, Chase (Chrysta), and Taylor (Catherine), great grandson Brooks, and brothers: James Tatum and Ken Tatum. The family will celebrate Don's wonderful life during visitation that will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, December 4, 2015 at Porter Loring Mortuary North. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Parkhills Baptist Church, 17747 San Pedro Ave, San Antonio, TX 78232. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerromy Johnson, Chase Andress, Taylor Andress, Kyle Tatum, Nick Johnson, Glen Rountree, and Monty Pinton. The family wants to express a special thanks for Don's excellent care to Dr. Carmen Cawley and her staff as well as to Gentiva Hospice for their constant care during Don's last days. In lieu of flowers please provide a memorial gift to Parkhills Baptist Church for the Manna House Ministry.
