Born on June 20th, 1926 in Monroe, La, he was 90 years old when he finally had to give up one of his favorite activities - golf - about a month ago. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton Livingston Taylor and Moise Vincent Taylor, 3 sisters, Lavania Taylor Woodburn, Marie Taylor Hunt and Dorothy Taylor Hill (all of Monroe, LA) and his first wife, Evelyn Cowan. He is survived by his loving and supportive wife, Lois Ourso Sword; brother- in-law, Ben (Carol) Cowan (Mooresville, NC); and four children - Evelyn Taylor Auster, William "Bill" (Tess) Taylor, Jr, Martha (Chris Bennett) Taylor (Portland, OR), Ruth (Mark) Taylor Talkington (Dallas, TX) and one step-child, Kelly (Enrique) Sword Hurtado. Bill is also survived by nine grandchildren - Amy (2 of them!), Lora, Clay, Erika, Alexandra, Daniela, Max, Luke - and two great-grandchildren, along with a number of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was a US Army veteran. He graduated from LSU and worked as an Instrumentation Engineer for Commercial Solvents and then Dow Chemical for over 30 years. Bill was a loving, hard-working and generous husband and father. He had a life-long passion for bridge, playing not only socially, but traveling to many tournaments around the country, eventually earning, along with his wife, Lois, the rank of Bronze Life Master. In his retirement, he served part-time as a Bridge Director on cruise ships as well as at the Baton Rouge Bridge Club. Bill enjoyed traveling with his wife, Lois, with whom he took cruises, visited a number of Elder Hostels and went snow skiing. He also had a keen interest in flying, earning his small aircraft pilot's license and flying on several trips in the gulf coast area. Bill loved singing - especially church hymns - and was a member of the church choir for over 50 years. He also enjoyed playing tennis and studying / "dabbling" in the stock market. During the last year of his life he looked forward to attending "Tuesday at Charlie's Place", provided by Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area. He would want to offer a sincere 'thank you' to their staff and especially to Marcia Kirk who kept him smiling. Also, we want to express our thanks to the caregivers who provided loving service over the last few years, especially Malinda's in-home care. Bill was a 50+ year member of Ingleside United Methodist Church, being drawn there by their warm, friendly, loving approach. A memorial service celebrating Bill's life will be held at Ingleside United Methodist Church at 2:00pm on Friday, September 9th, 2016, with pastors Ali Young and Tim Lawson officiating. There will be time for visiting at the church beginning at 1:00pm and then after the 2:00 service is completed. It is asked that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Ingleside United Methodist Church (4264 Capital Heights Ave, BR, LA 70806) or Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area (3772 North Blvd, BR, LA 70806) File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/ouachita/obits/t/taylor5416nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/lafiles/ File size: 3.7 Kb
