Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, August 15, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mulhearn's Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd., Monroe. Mr. Terry was born in Wisner, La. on November 30, 1927 to Jimmie Luther and Velma Easterling Terry. He worked very hard with odd jobs, his dad's business, and farm chores from the time he was a small boy. He graduated from Ouachita Parish High School, and attended Northeast Junior College. From there he went to LSU where he received his Bachelor of Science in Journalism. While at LSU, he sold ads all over Baton Rouge as he worked as business manager for The Reveille. During those years, he was a speech writer for Earl Long, although Earl rarely stuck to the speech. After college, he went into active duty in the United States Army where he served in the infantry as First Lieutenant and as Adjutant to the General. While at Fort Hood, he began dating who was to be his wife of 51 years, Lehlia Hennington Terry, (Tuggy), a student at Mary Hardin Baylor. In 1955, Mr. Terry and several others became the first State Farm Agents in Monroe. He worked as an agent on N. 4th St. for 49 years. Upon joining State Farm, he became active in the local community. He served as president of the Jaycees and played a major role in bringing the Miss La. Pageant to Monroe. He also was involved in Kiwanis and the NE La. Life Underwriters Association, among other organizations. From 1967 to 1979, he was owner and operator of KREB country music radio station (106.1 FM). During the KREB years, he sponsored the "NE La. Hayride" country music show at the Strand Theater in West Monroe. Mr. Terry's greatest interest was in his family, instilling in them Christian principles and the value of education. He made this statement concerning education "The future belongs to our youth. What they do with it depends on how well they are prepared for it." He was saved in First Baptist Church of Pollock and has been a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe since 1946. An avid reader, he especially liked historical books and news. He really enjoyed politics. But even more, he enjoyed discussions with his children and spending time with his grandchildren. He was truly the head of the family.
