She was born on June 6, 1937, in Morristown, Tennessee, and graduated from Morristown High School, Carson Newman College and Northeast Louisiana University. Before retiring to Seymour, she lived for many years in Monroe, LA, where she taught honors-level science classes at Ouachita Parish High School and anatomy and biology classes at Northeast Louisiana University. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Velma Gilliam, and her parents-in-law, Jim and Vira Thomas. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Dale Thomas; son Steven Thomas and grandsons Derrick Jones and Brandon Thomas, of Morristown; son and daughter-in- law Scott and Helen Thomas and grandchildren Erin, Emily and Ethan Thomas, of Seymour; daughter and son-in-law Suzanne and Steven Spell and granddaughter Amelia; a sister and brother-in-law Jean and David Rupley of Phoenix, Arizona; and numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and cousins. She also is survived by her special college friends Janice Adkins, Peggy Martin, Myrna Searcy and Johnnie Lou Vineyard. Memorial contributions may be sent to Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 4196, Monroe, LA 71211. The funeral service will be 7:00 PM Sunday at Atchley's Seymour Chapel with Rev. Jim Kelling officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 AM Monday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery for interment. The family will receive friends 6:00 PM til 7:00 PM Sunday at Atchley Funeral Home, Seymour, 122 Peacock Court, Seymour, TN, 37865.
