She was ninety- nine years old. Ms. Fannie was born January 9, 1910 in Liddieville, LA and spent most of her adult life in Richland Parish where she was widely loved and respected for a lifetime of teaching and community service. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P. M., Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Rayville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Rayville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Rayville. After growing up in Liddieville, Ms. Fannie left home to pursue her education. She graduated from the Louisiana Normal School (Northwest Louisiana State College) and received her masters degree in Education from Northeast Louisiana University. She was an elementary school teacher for more than 40 years before retiring in 1972. In 1934, while teaching in Delhi, Ms. Fannie married Mr. James B. Thompson, Jr. and was happily married for 64 years until his death in 1998. During her life, Ms. Fannie was an active member of many clubs and organizations including the Rhymes Memorial Library Fundraising Committee, Rayville United Methodist Church, Lambda Kappa Club, Rayville Literary Club, The Rayville Art and Civic Club, The Black Cats bridge club and the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association. Ms. Fannie loved to read, paint, write poetry, play golf and play bridge. She also loved hunting for seashells and watching birds. Ms. Fannie is survived by two sons, James B. Thompson, III of Baton Rouge and William Ralph Thompson of Amherst, MA; daughters-n-law: Nancy Glisson Thompson and Nancy Blake Thompson; four grandchildren: Dennis Thompson, Kelli Thompson Stevens, Amy Thompson and Nanette Thompson; great-grandchildren: AJ Hoose, Sarah Bailey Stevens and Celia Claire Stevens; and a niece: Nancy Holly Walters.
