SHERRY FORTSON THOMPSON

Sherry Fortson Thompson, lifetime resident of Northern Louisiana, passed away 
on Wednesday, August 5, 2015. She was born October 1, 1937 in Shreveport, 
Louisiana to Everett and Lessie Fortson. She is the mother of two daughters, a 
grandmother, and great grandmother.

In her nearly four decades in Monroe, Sherry took great joy in the kinship of 
her many friends and fellow church members. She retired in May of 2009 from ULM 
and likewise applied her talents at both Louisiana Tech and LSU where she was 
recognized for her gifts of networking and relationship building. She served as 
a volunteer at the St. Francis Medical Center and was a member of the P.E.O. 
Sisterhood.

Sherry was preceded in death by her father Everett Fortson of Shreveport, 
Louisiana. She is survived by her mother, Lessie Fortson of Shreveport, 
Louisiana and her brother, Dr. Wayne Fortson of Kilgore Texas, two daughters; 
Deborah Eades and husband David Eades of Franklin, Tennessee, and Donna 
Axmacher and husband David Axmacher of Castle Rock, Colorado. Sherry is also 
survived by grandchildren; Zachary Eades, Madison Eades, McKinley Eades, Sophie 
Axmacher, Laney Axmacher, Jennifer Levine, Elizabeth Eades, and Stephen Eades, 
and great grandchildren Keaton Bures, Callie Bures, Jordan Bures, Taylor 
Levine, Roland Eades as well as two nieces: Elizabeth Stewart and Allison Grubb 
and a nephew Bradley Fortson.

A memorial service to be held this Friday, August 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Saint 
Paul's United Methodist Church at 1901 Lexington Avenue, in Monroe. In lieu of 
flowers, memorials may be made in Sherry's name to the Ouachita Parish Animal 
Shelter in West Monroe.
