NELDA R. THURMON 

Nelda R. Thurmon, 82, of Monroe, LA, went to her heavenly home on May 8, 2014. 
She was born in Converse, LA on December 16, 1931. A Visitation will be held on 
Tuesday, May 13, 2014, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in the sanctuary of Swartz First 
Baptist Church, Swartz, LA. Immediately following, the funeral service will be 
held at 11:00 am with Rev. Ron Thomas officiating. Burial will follow the 
services at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery in Summerfield, LA at 3:00 PM.

Nelda was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Thurmon; son, Ken Thurmon; her 
sister, Margaretsa Cannon; brother, R. B. Middleton Jr.; brother, Tom Middleton; 
and her parents, Roan and Ida Middleton.

She is survived by her loving family; her children, Troy Thurmon and wife, Jan, 
Tom Thurmon and wife, Debbie, Sylvia Oden and husband, Jeff, Lora Clark and 
husband, Jeff; and her grandchildren, Houston Steelman and wife Jenny, Mallory 
Oden, Sarah Thurmon, Ryan Thurmon, Walker Thurmon, and Sam Oden.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Oden, Jeff Clark, Houston Steelman, Ryan Thurmon, 
Walker Thurmon, and Sam Oden.

Nelda graduated from Bernice High School then pursued a degree in nursing at 
Northwestern State College. Instead of a career in nursing, her life led her to 
become a dedicated homemaker. She devoted her time to her husband, children and 
church. She cherished "coffees" with her friends, sewing, walking with a group 
of ladies, and tending to her flowers. She will be greatly missed by her loving 
family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Swartz First Baptist Church "New 
Building Fund"
