Dr. Tisdale, former resident of Monroe, LA, passed away peacefully in Tulsa, OK on January 25, 2010. Dent was born in Monroe, LA on June 25, 1933. He attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA and graduated from Tulane University with a B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1955. In 1958, he graduated from Tulane School of Medicine where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, an honorary medical fraternity. After graduation, Dent did a residency in pathology at Louisiana State University School of Medicine, Shreveport, LA. He was board certified in Pathology and a member of the American College of Pathology. Dent married his high school sweetheart, Martha Clayton Sparks, also of Monroe, LA and they settled in Pine Bluff, AR where Dent practiced pathology for 27 years. Dent and Martha Clayton returned to Monroe in 1987 where Dent continued to practice pathology and was a member of the LSU Medical School faculty at E. A. Conway Hospital. They shared many happy times with friends and family during their years in Monroe. Dent was an avid hunter and fisherman, and those who knew him, knew that getting up at 4:00 in the morning to be in the woods among a flight of ducks was his favorite thing. He was fortunate to have shared many happy hunting experiences with his grandson, Ryan, who now carried on Dent's love for the outdoors. Dent was a lifetime sponsor of Ducks Unlimited and a wildlife conservationist. In addition to hunting and fishing, Dent had a love for aviation. During their marriage, Dent and Martha Clayton each earned a pilot's license and spent many years flying together in the Beechcraft Bonanza. Where they could not fly themselves, they flew commercially, sharing many wonderful trips together to Europe. Dent's love of history took them to WWI and WWII battlefields in France, Belgium and Germany where he cherished the opportunity to relive many historical events from the past century. Dent is predeceased by his mother and father, the late Dr. Alfred Dent and Leta Sproles Tisdale of Monroe; and his sister, Louise Tisdale Nunnally of Alexandria, LA. Survivors include his wife, Martha Clayton Sparks Tisdale; his two children, Martha Tisdale Cordell of Tulsa, OK, and Robert Clayton Tisdale of Austin, TX; and four grandchildren, Ryan and Mary Louise Cordell, and George and Edward Tisdale. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, hunting buddies, and professional colleagues. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 AM until service time at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
