JAMES EDWARD TRAYLOR

James Edward Traylor, Sr., 78, co-owner of The Kitchen Restaurant, entered into 
eternal peace on Friday, May 30, 2014, at his home in Monroe.

James was born on July 19, 1935, in Chatham, Louisiana. He began his career in 
the restaurant industry as owner of James Traylor Refrigeration Company. In 
1984, he opened The Kitchen with his wife Mary, working besides each other for 
more than 30 years. James had a very kind and gentle soul, a loving and generous 
heart, and a passion for making his customers feel welcome and at home. He was a 
member and Past Master of Graham Surghnor Masonic Lodge, member and Past 
Potentate of the Barak Shrine Temple, and a member of Fair Park Baptist Church 
and the American Legion. James was especially proud of his designation as Member 
Emeritus of both the Board of Governors of the Shriners Hospitals for Children 
in Shreveport and the Barak Shrine Circus Committee.

He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his wife of 59 years, Mary 
Louise Traylor; two daughters and their husbands, Terri and Dave Kent of West 
Monroe and Debra and Dale Williamson of Flower Mound, TX; his son James E. 
Traylor, Jr. (Jay) and wife Brandi of Monroe; three grandsons and their wives, 
Jeremy and Renee Kent, Jeffrey and Abigail Kent, and Ryan and Brenna Williamson; 
five granddaughters, Amanda and Justin Dodson, Tara and Aaron Fecher, and 
Samantha, Kate, and Elizabeth Traylor; and six great grandchildren. James is 
also survived by his brother, Henry Ray Traylor, sisters, Geraldine Evans and 
Wanda Kaye Fullerton, and sister-in-law Joyce Bennett.

Services will be held Monday, June 2, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Fair Park Baptist 
Church in West Monroe with Rev. Waymon Warren and Jeffrey Kent officiating. 
Interment will follow in Kilpatrick Serenity Gardens under the direction of 
Mulhearn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday at 
Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road in Monroe.

Pallbearers will be Jay Traylor, Dale Williamson, Jeremy Kent, Jeffrey Kent, 
Ryan Williamson, and Dave Kent. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 
Masonic and Shrine Temples.

The family extends their thanks to Dr. Vincent Forte, Dr. David Herbert, United 
Home Health, First Choice Hospice, ComForcare Services, his caregiver Farrah 
Marshall, and his companion and special friend Lela Hunter. A special thank you 
is given to his faithful employees Patricia Reed, Zattie Mathis, and Theresa 
Woodard as well as his many loyal customers.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Ave., 
Shreveport, LA 71103.

Shortly before his death, James awoke from a dream, ecstatic he had been able to 
walk again. Now he walks with Jesus. Enjoy your stroll, Daddy.
