John Tate officiating. Mr. Troy passed away Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center. He was a resident of the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home. Mr. Troy was an accountant for Atlantic Richfield for 30 plus years and was active in the Retirement Association. Mr. Troy served his country in WWII as well as Korea. He was a member of the 32nd Infantry Division in New Guinea as well as the Philippines. The 32nd, known as the Red Arrow, was credited with more days in actual combat than any other division in the U.S. Army. General Yamashita, Commander of Japanese Forces in the Philippines, called the 32nd the best American troops they faced. Mr. Troy was called to serve three different times and served his country well. Overcoming war injuries that hindered him during the rest of his life, Mr. Troy drew upon the roots of his youth in Honey Grove, TX and built the character, determination, and self motivation he needed to adapt to the big city of Dallas, TX. While building his career, Mr. Troy spent his spare time actively seeking knowledge and attending seminars. He never ceased participating in civic activities. He was a line dancer, a biker, and avid walker. He was a man full of humility and love of family and friends. He was a man who walked with the Lord every step of the way and will be sorely missed. Survivors include his sister, Mary T. Coker of Monroe, LA; nephews, Don Coker and wife Barbara, and Ray Coker and wife Shirley, all of Monroe, LA; niece, Martha C. Bratton and husband Rocky, of Monroe, LA; three great nieces, Sara Bratton, Mary Frances Bratton, and Kathryn Coker; and three great nephews, Troy Coker, Daniel Bratton, and John Coker. The family wishes to extend much appreciation and love to the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home Staff and many wonderful friends he made there, for their care and friendship. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 3900 Loop Road, Monroe.
