Reverend Kenny Herring will officiate the service. Interment will immediately follow at Beulah Baptist Cemetery near Oak Grove. Visitation will be held from 4PM - 8PM on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove, LA. Mrs. Tubbs was born on May 20, 1933 in El Dorado, AR to parents, Joseph Thomas and Evie Jarrell Brasher. She moved to Oak Grove in 1939 and resided in Bastrop, LA from 1952 until 1966 before returning to Oak Grove, LA. She passed away from her battle with breast cancer on Saturday, June 3, 2017 in Oak Grove, LA. She attended Greenacres Baptist Church while living in Bastrop, where she began her career of teaching Sunday school and taught for over 50 years. Upon moving to Oak Grove, LA, she began attending Beulah Baptist Church on Hwy 585 in West Carroll Parish, where she continued teaching Sunday school. Singing in the choir was a special part of her life. She also enjoyed decorating, preparing floral designs, scrapbooking, quilting and shopping. Mrs. Tubbs graduated from Oak Grove High School and Northeast LA. State College (ULM.) She retired with 27 years of service as a 3rd grade school teacher at Oak Grove Elementary School. Survivors include her spouse, Donald Paul Tubbs of Oak Grove, LA; daughters, Cheryl Tubbs Dees-Dupuy and spouse, Patrick of Zachary, LA and Daphne Tubbs Thomas and spouse, Lane of Zachary, LA; granddaughters, Amy Thomas Bonds and spouse, Alex of Zachary, LA and Melissa Thomas Simon and spouse, Joseph of Central, LA; grandson, Jacob Hayden Dees and spouse, Jamie of Zachary, LA; great-grandson, Ethan Joseph Simon; great-granddaughters, Hannah Elizabeth Bonds and Emma Layne Simon; sisters-in-law, Francis Faulkner Brasher and Elna Bonner Brasher; special friends, Gwen Castilaw, Marilyn Davis, Katherine Butler, Fay Danley, Betty Ward, Donna McAllister and Sandra Costello; special nieces, Dr. Kay Brasher Kovac, Cindy Brasher Craig and spouse, Paul and Linda Tubbs Dustin; special nephews, Morgan Brasher and spouse, Karen; Ted Brasher and spouse, Mary Alice; Joe Willett and spouse Nancy; Bob Willett and Zane Tubbs and spouse, Darlene. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Mrs. Tubbs is preceded in death by her grandson, Dennis Ray Dees, Jr.; parents, Joseph Thomas and Evie Jarrell Brasher; nine sisters, Bessie Brasher Templeton, Beulah B. Murray, Eula B. Carter, Sarah "Tina" Jones, Lois B. Glover, Georgia B. Dumas, Violet B. Willett, Maxine B. New and Margaret Jo B. Long; four brothers, Ferry S. Brasher, George W. Brasher, John David Brasher and Bobby N. Brasher and two sisters-in-law, Bernice Brasher and Pauletta New Brasher. Serving as pallbearers are: Morgan Brasher, Ted Brasher, Paul Craig, Roger Defee, Cullen Kovac, Bob Willett, Joe Willett and Zane Tubbs. Serving as honorary pallbearers are: Mark Brasher, Bob Castilow, Kent Davis, Eddie Dumas, Gene Gammill, Charlie Sanders, Sheriff Mike Tubbs, Steve Tubbs and the Deacons of Beulah Baptist Church. The family would like to express their appreciation to: Dr. Hayek and staff of Greenville, MS, Dr. Fakhre Fakhre and staff at West Carroll Hospital, Mr. Steve Cox and staff for their professional services and our entire Beulah Baptist Church family for their prayers and services. The people who helped out our family are: Roger and Lily Ball Defee, Tommy and Fay Danley, Bob and Gwen Castilaw and Kent and Marilyn Davis. Also, to my niece, Dr. Kay Kovac, who has stood by through the two years that I battled breast cancer.
