Following the service a reception will be held in the Parish Hall of the church. Norma passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015 following a brief illness. She was born to Frank Jacob and Laura Quinn Becker on August 28, 1921, in New Orleans, a city she loved all her life. After graduating from Sophie Wright High School, she attended Louisiana State University where she met her future husband, Otis Lee (Tug) Tugwell, Jr. They were married in 1944 and soon began their family, which would include six busy children. As her children grew, Norma stayed busy with their activities and was someone's room-mother every year. Her home was a haven for her children and their friends; her door was always open, and there was usually something delicious to snack on. In later years she spent countless hours working at the Christ Church Thrift Shop, a ministry she thoroughly enjoyed. Visiting with the many customers of the shop was a great pleasure to her. After Tug retired, they enjoyed traveling to many of the places they had always dreamed of going. They both were thrilled with the birth of their grandchildren, who found their grandmother's home and their grandparents quite entertaining. Through the years Norma enjoyed her bridge club and being a part of Coterie study club. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Miriam, her favorite cousin, Lorraine, her devoted husband, Tug, her son Frank, and many of her dearest friends. Left to cherish memories of her are her children Lee Tugwell (Ann), Carol Anne Caraway (Pat), Bret Tugwell (Carlean), Terry Tugwell, and Melanie Taylor (Sam). She also leaves her grandchildren Lee Tugwell , Patrick Caraway (Leslie), Laura Akers (Jason), Alison Tugwell, Thomas Tugwell (Laura), Margaret Taylor (fiance Michael Tuskey), Anne Murray (Will), Miriam Taylor, Terry Tugwell II, Caleb Tugwell, and Zoe Tugwell. Bringing joy to her latter years were her great-granchildren Alexis and Jess Akers and Emma and Gordon Caraway. The family would like to thank Sister Elizabeth and the staff of St. Joseph's Assisted Living where Norma lived in the last years of her life and where she was loved for her sweet smile and calm demeanor. We also want to thank her sitters Annie Thomas, Toni Gordon, Ellen Jones, and Ruthie Gaines for the love and care they gave her. We would also like to express our appreciation and love to Mrs. Helen Landress who was a devoted friend to Norma through the years. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Christ Episcopal Church, 206 South Locus Street, Bastrop, Louisiana 71220, or the charity of the donor's choice .
